Questions & Answers
I'd like to provide my son's science teacher with credible alternatives to evolution. What do you suggest?

A good secular textbook that explains the theory of intelligent design is Of Pandas and People (Haughton Publishing Co.: Dallas, TX 1993) co-authored by Percival Davis, Professor of Life Science at Hillsborough Community College, and Dean H. Kenyon, Professor of Biology at San Francisco State University.

The textbook is intended as a supplemental resource for high school science students and teachers. Using colorful photographs, drawings, and charts, the authors explain the scientific basis for the theory of intelligent design as well as give a clear explanation of the theory of evolution.

Besides writing Of Pandas and People, Percival Davis is the author of several college level biology texts; Dean H. Kenyon is the author of Biochemical Predestination (McGraw-Hill 1969), which was the best-selling advanced-level book on chemical evolution in the 1970s. Kenyon later changed his position and now supports the theory of intelligent design.

To help you make the legal case for the teacher including the theory of intelligent design in your son's science class, I recommend a new booklet, Intelligent Design in Public School Science Curricula: A Legal Guidebook. In its 42 pages, it clearly distinguishes between creation science and design theory, and it lays a solid foundation for why teaching about intelligent design (using only scientific evidence) is perfectly legal in a public school.
