"Thanks for Encouraging Me to Move from Fear to Freedom"

Despite the blatant hostility of one of her colleagues, Heather’s students sang Christmas carols for the whole school this past year.

Heather is an elementary school music teacher in California. She visits various teachers’ classrooms and provides music instruction for the students. However, one teacher was not happy when he heard about her plans to teach the children Christmas carols.

“The teacher slammed his hand down on the desk” wrote Heather, “and said to me ‘You will NOT sing any Christmas carols with my students in my room!’ I respected his wishes and we didn’t sing them in his room but we sang Christmas carols in the school courtyard at an evening concert and tons of people thanked me afterwards for being bold enough to sing carols on campus. Thank you for encouraging me to move from fear to freedom.”

Heather added, “I had nothing but positive responses from the faculty, the new principal, and the parents. We even sang Silent Night as our closing song.”

Later, she celebrated Religious Freedom Day with that same teacher’s students by writing “Happy Religious Freedom Day” on the board. “We had a great discussion!”
