Six Levels of Learning
In any learning process, students go through six levels of learning. Each level takes the student deeper in his understanding of the subject. You can use an understanding of these levels to help your children learn better.
1. Knowledge - knowing the information
How: name, define, memorize, repeat, record, list, recall, locate, state, match, write.
2. Comprehension - demonstrating an understanding of the knowledge
How: give examples, explain, restate, infer, report, summarize, draw, identify, discuss.
3. Application - using the knowledge and comprehension
How: translate, interpret, dramatize, solve, practice, show, sketch, create.
4. Analysis - taking the information apart
How: classify, distinguish, sort, compare, diagram, inventory.
5. Synthesis - fusing new information with previous knowledge
How: create something new, propose a new approach, add a new twist to an old idea, update an old story in light of new technology (what if Paul Revere had a motorcycle?).
6. Evaluation - making judgments about the information
How: decide, compare, rank, rate, recommend, select.
